Concha y Toro presents 2018: An Extraordinary Vintage

The quality of the red wines from 2018 vintage is outstanding like few others. The well-balanced weather and the excellent condition of the grapes make this one of the best vintages of recent times, resulting in wines with explosive aromatics and remarkable balance.

Concha y Toro’s Technical Director of Enology Marcelo Papa has called 2018 an “extraordinary vintage” for red wines.

“It’s a unique vintage for Chilean red wines, not only for the season’s exceptional quality, but also because it produced wines with magnificent depth, ripe fruit, and strong, polished tannins. These wines present very good color, delicious tannins, and very good concentration with impressive underlying freshness as well as tremendous character and personality,” Marcelo explains.

Therefore, Concha y Toro has decided to launch an “Extraordinary Vintage” campaign that includes Concha y Toro’s Super Premium and Premium lines—Casillero del Diablo, Trio, Gran Reserva Serie Riberas, and Marques de Casa Concha —presenting the 2018 vintage of the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Malbec, Syrah, Merlot, and Pinot Noir. This initiative will include a 360º campaign at points of sale, activations in digital channels, and the implementation of an interactive platform www.challengeyoursensesnow.com that invites consumers to challenge their senses and participate in tastings and for prizes.

A VINTAGE LIKE NO OTHER

The unbeatable weather conditions in Chile during the 2017–2018 season, which began with a sunny spring and a moderate summer, were determinant in being able to call this an extraordinary vintage. The season’s excellent conditions enabled the different grape varieties to reach their optimal point of ripeness prior to harvest. This season truly presented naturally perfect weather conditions for red varieties.

“The weather we had during the second half of 2017 and early 2018 through harvest were very good, especially in the interior zones of the Central Valley—specifically, the Maipo, Rapel, Curicó, and Maule Valleys,” Marcelo said.

The vines developed without problems during the spring, with temperatures a little below normal and no rainfall. “The entire growing cycle was calm and natural. Every climatic factor in the different seasons was precise in benefitting our vineyards. This enabled the plants to develop well and grow happily and without stress,” Marcelo continued.

An extraordinary vintage shows not only the blessings of nature, but also the ability of a team of experts. In addition to the good quality of the grapes, Concha y Toro’s experienced enological team worked meticulously in every valley to begin the harvest at just the right time, without rushing or the need to take risks, and as a result, obtained the highest standards of quality, which gave rise to well-balanced wines with aromas of cherries, blackcurrants, figs, blackberries, cherries, and violets as well as tremendous concentration, good structure, elegance, and ripe tannins.
