Viña Concha y Toro’s Center for Research and Innovation took part in the GiESCO International Meeting (Group of international Experts for Cooperation on Vitivinicultural Systems), one of the most important congresses on viticulture in the world.
The research being conducted by the CRI on climate change and water resources through the project on the “Assessment of controlled water stress on vineyard productivity and wine quality using the surface renewal and metric methodologies to determine water demand” was presented in the event’s main conference hall.
Sebastián Vargas, Head of Vitiviniculture and Winemaking R&D&I at Viña Concha y Toro’s Center for Research and Innovation, discussed the results of this project, which aims to optimize water and energy use, answering the question of when and how much to irrigate through technological capabilities and know-how.
“Attending this international viticulture congress enabled us to make the necessary contacts to enhance collaboration with other players in the field in order to strengthen ongoing projects, as well as key new research areas for the company’s development, and validate the level of research that we are conducting at the CRI, which is currently on a par with the research carried out by leading global universities on winemaking and viticulture”, noted Vargas.
