Marcelo Papa Takes Part in the Seminar “Chardonnay in Today’s Chile”

Viña Amelia’s Technical Director took part in this major gathering that brought together leading Chilean winemakers to discuss the diversity and potential of this variety across the country’s principal terroirs.

Marcelo Papa, Technical Director of Viña Amelia, participated in the seminar “Chardonnay in Today’s Chile”, an event organised by Catad’Or together with Pablo Ugarte and Sofía LeFoulon, and sponsored by Amorim Cork Industries. The activity took place at Vinolia and brought together around 50 professionals from the wine industry, members of the press, and key figures from the sector.

During the event, Marcelo Papa presented Amelia Quebrada Seca Chardonnay 2025 as part of a panel featuring eight distinguished Chilean winemakers, who discussed the diversity and potential of Chardonnay across different Chilean terroirs, from the coast and the desert to the Andes Mountains.

The seminar proposed a journey from north to south through the country’s principal origins for this variety, highlighting how climate, territory, and the identity of each region have helped establish Chile as one of the world’s leading references for premium Chardonnay.

In this context, Viña Amelia stood out as one of the pioneering projects in the Limarí Valley, an extreme northern Chilean origin recognised for its exceptional conditions for producing world-class Chardonnay. The influence of the Pacific Ocean, its limestone-rich soils, and the presence of the camanchaca fog allow for slow and balanced grape ripening, resulting in wines of remarkable freshness and elegance. Amelia Quebrada Seca Chardonnay is also now regarded as one of Chile’s most awarded wines, reflecting Limarí’s enormous potential for this variety.

Alongside Viña Amelia, wineries such as JP Martin, Viña Cono Sur, Viña Leyda, Calyptra, Ventisquero, Viña Aquitania, and Andes Plateau also took part.
