Amelia Chardonnay receives the highest score in its history with the 2024 vintage

Concha y Toro’s ultra-premium Chardonnay marks a new milestone by achieving 98 points, the highest rating in its history, awarded by renowned wine critic Joaquín Hidalgo in Vinous, one of the most influential publications in the international wine industry.

Amelia Chardonnay, one of the flagship wines of the Limarí appellation, reaffirms its leadership as one of the most awarded Chardonnays after receiving 98 points from Joaquín Hidalgo, a critic specializing in wines from Chile, Argentina, and Spain for Vinous.

In his recent report titled “Coastal Chile: A Little-Known Terroir Worth Discovering,” Hidalgo tasted nearly 200 Chilean labels, highlighting the 2024 vintage of Amelia Chardonnay as the best-rated Chardonnay in the report, positioning this wine as the Best Chardonnay in Chile.

The critic described this vintage as: “Complex and finely balanced, it intertwines well-judged oak with the ripe yet fresh fruit profile of Limarí: fennel, ginger and green apple, lifted by acacia and linden blossom. Broad yet saline—the hallmark of the region—the palate is refreshing and enveloping. One of the standout Chardonnays of the “green north,” the 2024 has delicate nuance and depth of flavor in a clearly defined style.”

This new recognition in Amelia’s history highlights the great potential of the Quebrada Seca vineyard, located in an extreme terroir in northern Chile, at the doorstep of the Atacama Desert. Its marked influence from the Pacific Ocean, along with soils rich in calcium carbonate, make it an exceptional origin for producing high-end Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Marcelo Papa, Technical Director of Concha y Toro and winemaker of Amelia, comments: “More than 25 years ago, I began researching the Limarí origin. From the first time I tasted a Chardonnay from this area, I was immediately convinced that this place had enormous potential. Today, with this new milestone for Amelia, I have no doubt that, as a company, we were right to bet on a little-explored region that today proves to be one of the great terroirs for high-end winemaking in Chile. This great score is also a recognition of an entire team that has worked hard, year after year, in pursuit of excellence to craft a world-class Chardonnay.”

This recognition once again consolidates Amelia Chardonnay’s position as one of the most awarded white wines from Chile and the world, reflecting Concha y Toro’s commitment to quality, innovation, and exploration of new origins. The 2024 vintage not only marks a milestone in the brand’s history but also reaffirms the extraordinary potential of the Limarí Valley as one of the best origins for premium Chardonnay.
