US magazine Wine Enthusiast recently held a virtual event called “The unfathomable diversity of the longest and narrowest country in the world: Chile.”

Marcelo Papa is Concha y Toro’s technical director and chief winemaker for the Marques de Casa Concha and Amelia brands. The expert took part in a recent virtual event held by US wine, food, and travel magazine Wine Enthusiast called “The unfathomable diversity of the longest and narrowest country in the world: Chile.”The theme of the event, moderated by the magazine’s editor-in-chief Susan Kostrzewa, was to discuss and uncover the complexities of Chile’s wines, its goals, innovations, and varieties of new and already established wines. The aim was to explore all of this with three guests, chilean wine producers: Marcelo Papa from Concha y Toro, Aurelio Montes from Viña Montes and Sebastián Labbé from Viña Santa Rita.

Marcelo Papa was in charge of presenting the most famous vineyards of his brands, such as those of the Limarí Valley, a place with calcareous soils, closeness to the sea, and located in northern Chile, which gives the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir varieties an incomparable freshness and minerality.

He also spoke of the Maipo Valley, known for having one of the world’s best terroirs with its alluvial, stony, and permeable soils, making it ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah vines.
