Our great exponent of the Peumo appellation, Terrunyo Carmenere, received a distinguished 93 points for its 2022 vintage in one of the most relevant specialized media in the global wine industry.
The prestigious Wine Spectator publication recently released a new score for Terrunyo Carmenere, part of the Luxury Brands Chile portfolio by Viña Concha y Toro. This wine is recognized as Chile’s first ultra-premium Carmenere and has become a key reference for Carmenere wines in the country.
This is the Terrunyo Carmenere 2022, which earned outstanding 93 points and was described by Aaron Romano, Senior Editor of the publication, as follows:
“Displays alluring aromas of dried lavender, cocoa nib and pink peppercorn that join a rich and generously textured core packed with black cherry and berry flavors. Plenty of fresh acidity knives through and lifts the core flavors as they linger, with spice details and well-integrated tannins.”
It is important to highlight that this is the highest score ever achieved by Terrunyo Carmenere in Wine Spectator, and the second time it has received this recognition, the first being with the 2005 vintage.
Marcio Ramírez, the wine’s winemaker, explains that “the 2021-2022 season was characterized by a cooler spring and a slightly warmer summer. However, at the time of harvest, the temperatures were slightly cooler, which allowed for the proper maturation of the Carmenere. As a result, the wine has a higher concentration, more color, and a fresher profile.”
This great recognition consolidates Terrunyo Carmenere as one of the main exponents of the Peumo appellation and a benchmark for ultra-premium Carmenere wines from the New World.
