Matthew Horkey tastes Concha y Toro’s high-end wines

Renowned wine expert Matthew Horkey, with over 10 years of experience as a writer, educator, consultant, and content creator, visited Chile for the first time to deepen his understanding of the country’s wine origins and its wines.

Known for his influential YouTube channel Dr. Matthew Horkey and his role as a judge in various international wine competitions, Matthew is currently visiting Chile to further explore the renowned Maipo Valley and learn more about what Chilean wineries have to offer.

As part of his trip, he visited Viña Concha y Toro, where he took part in an exclusive tasting of the winery’s high-end portfolio. The tasting, led by winemaker Isabel Mitarakis, included wines from the Amelia line — sourced from the Limarí Appellation — as well as Terrunyo Sauvignon Blanc and Terrunyo Carmenere.

For the first time, Matthew tasted both wines from the Amelia line originating in the Limarí Valley. Regarding the Amelia Chardonnay 2024, he commented on his Instagram account: “I was blown away by the Amelia Chardonnay, grown in Limarí with its salty and succulent flavors. It reminded me of a high-quality Chard from Santa Barbara County combined with the bright acidity of a Chablis. It’s the most impressive Chilean white I’ve ever tasted.”

As for the Terrunyo Carmenere 2024, he added: Their Terrunyo Carmenere has long held a place in my heart as one of the first Chilean reds I ever had. With it’s plush cherry flavors with a hint of peppercorn, it’s a fun red to drink”.

Matthew Horkey’s visit to Viña Concha y Toro not only reinforces the growing international interest in Chilean wines but also highlights the quality and identity of the country’s top terroirs. His praise shines a spotlight on the winery’s winemaking expertise and cements Amelia and Terrunyo as benchmarks of Chilean high-end wine.
