Peumo, an exceptional origin for Carmenere
During Carmenere Month, talking about Peumo means talking about one of the great terroirs for this variety in Chile and around the world. Located in the Cachapoal Valley, this territory has more than a century of winegrowing history linked to Carmenere, with historic vines and a deep understanding of the land built over generations.

Its natural conditions have played a defining role in this relationship. Peumo has a sub-humid Mediterranean climate, with warm days and cool nights, while the influence of the Cachapoal River and Lake Rapel helps moderate night-time temperatures during the summer. Its deep soils, with a significant presence of clay and good water-retention capacity, support Carmenere’s long ripening cycle, encouraging slow and balanced maturation.
It is from this exceptional origin that Terrunyo Carmenere is born, specifically from Block 27 of the Peumo Vineyard. A close connection with the vineyard and decades of accumulated knowledge of the territory have made it possible to craft a wine distinguished by the freshness, elegance, concentration and depth that characterise Carmenere from Peumo.
“Peumo is the birthplace of great Chilean Carmenere. Here we find century-old vineyards, historic vines and a knowledge of the territory that has been built generation after generation. It is this connection between variety and place that gives Carmenere from Peumo its unique and distinctive identity,” Marcio Ramírez, winemaker of Terrunyo.
The relationship between Peumo, Carmenere and Terrunyo is a fundamental part of the brand’s identity and its commitment to continue showcasing this exceptional origin, bringing its unique character and the potential of Chilean Carmenere to an international audience.
