3 playlists to enjoy with Sauvignon blanc

Share

Have you ever felt that great food tastes even better if the background music is the right one? If you think about it, it’s not a coincidence that restaurants play carefully chosen songs in their dining. Neither, that we prefer albums that make us feel good when sitting around a table enjoying a nice dinner.

The same thing happens with wine. This was demonstrated by a study carried out at the University of Oxford by the professor of experimental psychology, Charles Spencer, who concluded that people could obtain 15% more satisfaction with their wines, if they simultaneously drink and listen to the correct music. For this reason, we propose you some playlists to drink with Sauvignon Blanc, and may this experience intensify your feeling of well-being.

Considered one of the most popular white wine grapes in the world along with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc is found in all wine-growing regions of the world. But regardless of its origin, has two main styles.

When Sauvignon Blanc is fermented in concrete or steel tanks, it stands out for its herbaceous “green” aromas, notes of citrus (in cold climates) or tropical fruits such as mango (in moderate climates), sometimes vegetables like asparagus and it’s refreshing acidity on the palate. While when fermented in barrels and aged on its lees, it gives a creamy texture that feels oily on the palate. And then oak adds flavours of butter, vanilla or coconut, among others.

Here, three playlists to drink with three Sauvignon Blanc’s styles:

  • Cool Climate

Playlist: Club Zand – Summer Vibe

When Sauvignon Blanc has a great coastal influence, it reminds us of the sea and summer. Like Terrunyo Sauvignon Blanc 2019, from Casablanca Valley, whose salinity, lively acidity, chalky nuances, notes of citrus fruits and herbaceous touches invite us to cool off on hot days. If not, why not try to recreate the situation with a little bit of music and this juicy and mineral wine. Refresh yourself with this playlist thanks to its 12 hours of sensual African rhythms, a bit of disco, electronic and funk. Just help yourself with a drink, find your glasses and let yourself to relax by this beach combo.

  • Low in alcohol

 Playlist: Pichilemu Surf

For an easy drinking Sauvignon Blanc with direct coastal influence, as Gran Reserva Serie Riberas Sauvignon Blanc 2020, we recommend this chilling at the beach vibes playlist. Because it was born on south banks of the Rapel River, only 15 kilometres from the sea, has fresh herbal notes and citrus fruits but a much less sharp acidity. It is light, mineral, with a very fresh finish and its low in alcohol. Ideal to drink listening to the Brazilian reggae of Natiruts or Bob Marley, the voice of Jack Johnson, James Brown and of course, a lot of Chilean music. Sometimes the best bet is music and wines with the same origin!

  • Barrel fermented

Playlist: Jazz Classics

When Sauvignon Blanc is barrel-fermented, like Gravas de Bio Bio 2019, the wine is creamier on the palate, rounded and exuberant. But with a citrus and herbal expression that makes it refreshing. Coming from one of the southernmost wine-growing areas in Chile, its volcanic soils give it a firm and elegant structure. Therefore, this is a playlist of the best tunes in jazz history. They are big and selected songs, just as this barrel-aged Sauvignon feels. A rare specialty like jazz.
