The 35th vintage of Puente Alto’s icon Cabernet Sauvignon, Don Melchor, obtained an extraordinary 96 points in the influential US wine magazine, Wine Spectator.
Today marks a new milestone in the history of Don Melchor, after the new vintage of Puente Alto’s icon Cabernet Sauvignon, Don Melchor 2021 -which today celebrates its 35th vintage-, received 96 points and was included in the “Hot Wines” segment in one of the most influential magazines in the global wine industry, Wine Spectator.
The magazine’s Senior Editor, Aaron Romano, described the new vintage of Don Melchor as: “A remarkable effort that channels the finesse of the vintage with rich, muscular edges, offering a base of graphite and cassis notes that gather around elegant layers of dried rosemary and white pepper. The richly textured core of raspberry and plum flavors show precision and just enough acidity to keep things sailing onto the finish around well-integrated tannins and touches of cocoa.”
This extraordinary 96 points is the highest score ever awarded to a Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon and has been received five times by Don Melchor in its vintages: 2003, 2005, 2014, 2015, and now with its 35th vintage, the 2021. This makes it the only wine in the country to receive this historic score for the fifth time.
