James Suckling awards high scores to Concha y Toro

While visiting the country in February, renowned American wine critic James Suckling and the magazine’s senior editor Zekun Shuai tasted our company’s new vintages in preparation for his following report on Chile. Check out the scores below

After publishing the results on his website, James Suckling awarded the tastings with scores over 90 points. 

Concha y Toro’s icon Carmenere, Carmín de Peumo, scored an impressive 96 points with its 2022 vintage, which Suckling describes as wonderful on the nose with intense aromas of eucalyptus, black currants, paprika and graphite. Full-bodied but not heavy. The finish is pure and refined. It offers lots of fruit and a fresh, balanced finish”. 

Other representatives of Concha y Toro’s Luxury Brands portfolio included Marques de Casa Concha Heritage 2022 with 95 points, The Master 2022 with 94 points, Amelia Chardonnay 2022 with 97 points -the highest score in its history in this magazine-, Amelia Pinot Noir 2022 with 94 points, Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 with 94 points, Terrunyo Sauvignon Blanc 2023 with 92 points and Terrunyo Carmenere 2022 with 93 points. 

The Marques de Casa Concha line scored over 92 points across its portfolio, including Marques de Casa Concha Etiqueta Negra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay 2022, and Marques de Casa Concha Pinot Noir 2022 with 93 points. Followed by Marques de Casa Concha Merlot 2021, Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, and Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere 2022 with 92 points. 

The Gran Reserva Concha y Toro portfolio of wines scored an outstanding 93 points for its Malbec, Carmenere, and Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 and 90 points for its Sauvignon Blanc 2023. Finally, Casillero del Diablo Reserva Privada Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 received 91 points, while Casillero del Diablo Reserva Especial Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 and Casillero del Diablo Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 scored 90 points. 

Congratulations to the teams responsible for producing these high-score wines, which will be part of the next James Suckling 2024 report on Chilean wines.
