Following his recent visit to Chile, senior editor Zekun Shuai tasted the company’s latest vintages in preparation for their upcoming report on the country. Discover the scores below!
After publishing the results on its website, James Suckling awarded excellent scores —all above 93 points— to Concha y Toro’s portfolio of high-end wines.
Regarding Concha y Toro’s iconic Carmenere, Carmín de Peumo received an outstanding 96 points for its 2023 vintage. It was described by the outlet as a wine that “has a touch of fruit sweetness in the middle, but there are really good, fine-grained tannins to balance it, with lots of finesse, length and freshness (…) Lots of drinkability from this carmenere, which is one of the best from Chile.”
The Amelia wine range, which originates from the acclaimed Limarí appellation, was one of the most highlighted in the report. Amelia Chardonnay 2023 received 96 points and was described as “Fresh and saline on the palate, with a medium to full body and lots of tension and saline character. Lightly briny and long, without getting too extreme.” Meanwhile, Amelia Pinot Noir 2023 scored 95 points and was praised for its “excellent tannin structure holds the fruit back a bit, with a chalky texture and a lengthy finish.”
Other top performers from Concha y Toro’s Luxury Brands portfolio included The Master 2023 with 93 points, Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 with 95 points, Terrunyo Carmenere 2023 with 94 points, and Terrunyo Sauvignon Blanc 2024 with 93 points.
