Excellent scores for Concha y Toro wines at Vinous

In his most recent report on Chile, published on June 9, Argentine journalist and winemaker Joaquín Hidalgo, responsible for tasting Chilean wines for Vinous, praised current Chilean wines stating that the country has “a much more diverse and richer offer.” He added, “in Chile, there are endless terroirs we have just begun to explore that promise a revolution in the medium term.” The winery’s wines received outstanding recognition in the report.

The 2019 vintage of Concha y Toro’s icon Carmenere, Carmín de Peumo, received a remarkable 95 points. The journalist defined it as an “intense and opulent but juicy wine with velvety tannins, good volume, and flavor, growing broad in the back of the mouth.” For its part, Amelia Chardonnay 2020, from the extreme Limarí Valley, was also scored 95. Hidalgo characterized it as “a delicate coastal Chardonnay.” He added, “on the palate, it is chalky and saline, with good tension and a voluminous flow before the refined finish of hazelnut and fruit.” At the same time, Amelia’s 2020 Pinot Noir received an extraordinary 93 points.

The wines of the Marques de Casa Concha line also had an excellent performance: 93 points for 2020 Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay and Marques de Casa Concha Heritage vintages; 92 points for Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere 2020, Marques de Casa Concha Pinot Noir 2020 and Marques de Casa Concha Merlot 2019; and 91 points for Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Marques de Casa Concha Syrah 2020 and Marques de Casa Concha Cinsault 2021.

Once again, Concha y Toro thrived and stood out for its wines’ extraordinary quality and consistency.
