Joaquín Hidalgo tastes our Luxury Brand's new vintages

Share

Commissioned to taste Argentinian and Chilean wines for Vinous, the renowned wine critic visited us in Pirque to taste our portfolio’s new vintages and prepare his following 2024 report on Chilean wines.

Renowned Argentine wine journalist Joaquín Hidalgo is passing through Chile to taste and learn about the country’s latest vintages to prepare what will be his following report on Chilean wines 2024 for Top Global Media: Vinous.

Viña Don Melchor

Enrique Tirado, CEO and Technical Director of Viña Don Melchor, prepared a complete tour of the Don Melchor Vineyard, where Joaquín learned about Puente Alto’s unique soil characteristics and different agroecological practices implemented by the Don Melchor vineyard team. In terms of innovation, the new project is Viña Don Melchor’s Solar Vineyard. “It was exciting to tour the Don Melchor vineyard with Joaquín and talk about the soil profile of Puente Alto and how the new 2024 vintage is coming for Don Melchor. We also showed him our innovative “Solar Vineyard” project, a plantation that will undoubtedly provide meticulous data on vine cultivation in terms of orientation and density,” comments Enrique.

Afterward, they went to Casona Don Melchor to taste five great vintages -2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022- of Puente Alto’s icon Cabernet Sauvignon.

The new 2022 vintage of Don Melchor, which is composed of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, stands out for being a wine of great concentration, energy, ample richness, and maintaining Puente Alto terroir’s characteristic elegance.
