The magical moment begins in the Limarí, Maipo, Peumo, and Maule valleys with the harvest.
In the southern hemisphere, the grapes are harvested between March and April. The month depends on the variety, and when the grapes have reached a good concentration of sugars and tannin maturity, components give structure to the wine.
According to Concha y Toro’s technical director, Marcelo Papa, this year’s harvest is very promising for the Cellar Collection and Super Brands portfolios’ wines.
“The year has been presented with a lower thermal accumulation than the four previous years, so it has been cooler. It will be of excellent quality, especially if the weather is with us up to the point of harvest,” says Marcelo Papa.
The Limarí Valley was the first to start the harvest, and this time the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir harvests in Quebrada Seca began two weeks later than in 2020, beginning the week of February 15.
“In the Limarí Valley, the harvest started successfully, and it looks in excellent condition. The first juices are very promising. We believe we will have an extraordinary quality, explains this winemaker who has stood out for his quest for authenticity.
This summer’s atypical rains did not alter the red varieties in the Central Valley, such as Carmenere from Peumo, Cabernet Sauvignon from Maipo and Merlot from San Clemente, which are projected to be of high quality.
“We foresee a challenging harvest and hope to get through it well. Everything suggests that it will be a good vintage with wines of great balance and good quality”, says Papa.

The harvest has been carried out under all the sanitary regulations imposed by the pandemic generated by COVID-19 to ensure the good condition of both the grapes and all the people who work in this process of producing some of Concha y Toro’s most distinguished wines.
